Netorian is currently recruiting for one (1) SATCOM Communications Engineer to join our team in Afghanistan as the in-country network and system administrators to support United States Forces-Afghanistan (USFOR-A) under the Command, Control, Communications, Computers Information Technology (C4 IT) Services contract.

Job Description: The SATCOM Communications Engineers will:

  • Begin troubleshooting a critical outage within 30 minutes for the following requirements: SATCOM systems engineering support involving the design, configuration, implementation, operational management, and troubleshooting of theater SATCOM assets.
  • Coordinate with various operations centers and remote technicians for troubleshooting and repair of various systems to include the Master Reference Terminal (MRT), Alternate Master Reference Terminal (AMRT), Network Control Center (NCC), and Alternate Network Control Center (ANCC) using Network Management software (NMS). Burst time plans, user groups, control groups, power balancing, carrier analysis Linkway modem and boot files (i.e. S2 and 2100 types), DMD2050 modems, antenna gain, low noise amplifier (LNA), low noise block down convertor (LNB) and block up convertor (BUC). TACLANE operations and maintenance, router and switch configurations, IP subnetting, routing protocols and network connectivity issues, and radio frequency (RF) spectrum analysis (e.g. cross polling, power optimization, intermodulation, demodulation, data modulation and interference with X band, Ku band and Ka band terminal systems).
  • Perform setup, configuration and management of network monitoring tools to include SNMPc, Netcool, Netflow, Spectrum, Solarwinds, SYSLOG server and the TNMA suite which involve use of SNMP protocol V1, V2, V3, and MIBs.
  • Perform terminal setup and maintenance, High powered amplifier (HPA) and solid state power amplifier (SSPA) maintenance, dish setup, loading boot files and troubleshooting Linkway modem operations, signal flow, and interconnecting cable issues.
  • Satellite access and link acquisition and signal optimization (e.g. peak and polarization).
  • Maintain network diagrams; updates shall be made after any network changes.
  • Track network monitoring tools to identify SATCOM issues; begin troubleshooting SATCOM problems within one hour of notification; resolve problems within twelve hours. This includes all SATCOM assets in the CJOA-A, including, but not limited to, SNAPs and DKETs.
  • Coordinate with units and FSRs on status of CCSD links.
  • Coordinate with NETOPS to ensure all new SATCOM links are captured in the network monitoring tools.
  • Coordinate satellite access by submission of Satellite Access Requests (SARs).
  • Assist with plans and operations of current and future SATCOM (EAP/SNAP) missions.      


This position is based in Afghanistan. The SATCOM Communications Engineers will work 72 hours a week, Monday – Saturday and be on call 24/7.

Skills and Detailed Experience Required:

  • Minimum of 4 to 5 years of experience with SATCOM and SATCOM technologies within a DOD environment
  • Minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience with SATCOM in a deployed environment.  

Additional Qualifications:

  • SECRET clearance required. 
  • Detail-oriented with technical, verbal, and written communication skills

  • High School Diploma
